Online Monitoring and Automated Dosing System

Technology which can read the residual levels and automatically correct the dosing of chemicals, measure pH, TDS online

Description

WATER RECYCLE has come of age today and cooling systems are routinely operated at their maximum possible recycle capacities. When taken to the extreme end, chemical dosing becomes critical, with any changes leading to lower residuals. major issues of fouling, scale and corrosion related problems. Critical is chemical residual monitoring,
which going short, aggravates all problems. The time between manual correction of chemical addition and upset time can seriously affect the system. For the performance optimization of water treatment chemicals, Thermax developed Automated Dosing Systems which are online detection and monitoring controllers. Introducing
THERMREAD, a technology which can “read” the residual levels and automatically correct the dosing of chemicals, measure corrosion rate, pH, TDS online and do the
necessary corrections as per program. Particularly suited for polymer dosing which otherwise cannot be analyzed in situ, leading to erratic doses. Regulation ensures correct
dosing and residuals at all times, ensuring system cleanliness and freedom from erratic residuals.

How does the system works?

“When water flow from the system, different types of sensors like pH, Conductivity, Corrater, ORP and Fluorometer comes into action. The fluorometer detects the chemical level in the cooling water online and transmits the signal to controller. The controller convert those signals into statics and this information appears on the screen. In case the value obtained by the sensors doesn’t match with the set point entered in the system, the controller starts the relay which is assigned for that parameter and the chemical dosing pump operates accordingly.
Acid feed, blow down and halogen feed can also be controlled by the controller to the desired level of these parameters.”

Thermax has developed three online detection, monitoring and controlling system:

#Thermdose
#Thermread Plus

How does automation help you?

– Automated dosing helps to maintain the desired level of chemical in the system as compared to manual dosing.
– 24/7 online connectivity provides awareness about the exact account status of system.
– Ethernet facility available so that the calibrations could be done easily by connecting PCs & laptops to the system.
– Simple design, easy to operate and low maintenance.
– An online corrosion measurement and display can also be incorporated in the unit to measure the online corrosion rates.
– The information is communicated by three ways :

1. Accessing Web site
2. E-mail
3. SMS alert on mobile phone

Benefits
1. Remote Location Monitoring.
2. Water & Energy Savings.
3. Cooling water treatment cost reduction.
4. Reduction in effluent quantity.
5. Manpower cost reduction.
6. Increased efficiency of plant operation and life of equipment.
7. Reduction in plant maintenance cost.

Installation:

“A one inch tapping is necessary to install the instrument,
Preferably in the return line. Electrical connection, standard,
for 230V AC is necessary for the unit and the dosing pumps
would need electricity according to the pump rating specified.
The unit can be hooked up to autodosing of acid for pH control,
and ORP for biological control, among others.”

Major Readings Possible:

“Use of specified products for THERREAD allows for
residual reading and adjustments of the products based on
the actual residuals noticed on a realtime basis, without the
need for manual intervention. recommend to use for pH,
ORP, Polymer / chemical dosing, TDS related blowdown
control and corrosion rate analysis as the unit has a built in
corrator.”
